ACC sets new scheduling formats for expansion

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

02/03/2012 - Fort Lauderdale, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced its scheduling format once Syracuse and Pittsburgh join the league.

Syracuse and Pittsburgh were announced as new members in September, giving the ACC 14 members. There is no exact timetable for when the two schools will begin play, as the Big East has enforced a 27-month notice of departure.

In football, Syracuse will join the Atlantic Division and Pittsburgh will participate in the Coastal Division. The two schools will play each other every year as crossover partners.

The ACC will play a nine-game schedule once the two schools officially join the league. Each team will play all six in its division every year, plus its primary crossover partner every year and two rotating opponents from the opposite division.

An 18-game schedule will take place in men's and women's basketball. Each team will have one primary partner that will play twice every year.

Syracuse's primary partner in basketball will be Boston College, a former Big East member, while Pittsburgh will face Maryland. The other primary partnerships will be Duke-North Carolina, Clemson-Georgia Tech, Miami-Florida State, Wake Forest-North Carolina State and Virginia-Virginia Tech.
